2007 Maxwell Finalist - Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless of Brevard County, Inc.: Victory Village

Overview:
Victory Village serves disabled, homeless veterans by providing them with permanent supportive housing. The project promotes independence and self-sufficiency and offers an array of support services for its residents. Because of the nature of their disabilities, most of the veterans are not employed and spend the majority of their time on-site. To accommodate this, special features have been installed in each unit, such as front and back porches, fully handicapped accessible roll-in showers, and dishwashers. The Coalition creatively configured the units to maximize privacy while providing a tranquil and secure campus type environment.
