Portland, Maine’s Preble Street Brings People “Home for Good” :
Homelessness may one day become a thing of the past in Portland, Maine. Preble Street, a small, community-based nonprofit organization serving the needs of the city’s homeless since 1975, has adopted “housing first” as the linchpin of its mission to move people off the streets and into permanent homes where they can begin reclaiming their lives from the clutches of hunger, hopelessness, poverty and despair.

Fight to end homelessness in city is personal for Zarrow family :
An effort to make Tulsa the first city to end chronic homelessness is personal for its grass-roots leaders.
Gail Richards, a daughter of philanthropist Jack Zarrow's, spoke to the Tulsa Rotary Club on Wednesday about the Building Tulsa, Building Lives project to provide housing for the homeless.

San Diego Social Venture Partners Awards $600,000 in Grants and Services to Help Local Non-Profits Combat Hunger & Homelessness :
The San Diego Social Venture Partners (SDSVP) today awarded their 2007 Annual Grant to two San Diego nonprofit organizations fighting Hunger and Homelessness in the region. The recipients -- Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) in San Diego and Community Resource Center in Encinitas -- will each receive $300,000 in cash grants and in-kind professional business consulting services from SDSVP over a three-year commitment period. Each organization will leverage SDSVP resources and expertise to increase their capacity to serve the community and improve strategic planning, marketing, positioning, board building and fundraising activities.

Helping Reduce Family Homelessness: The Washington Families Fund :
Since its launch in February 2005, the Washington Families Fund has awarded $4.1 million to a total 15 innovative housing partnerships statewide. Its commitments to agencies and partnerships have already reached 11 counties, where programs will serve 1,000-1,600 homeless families over 10 years.

Measuring Success of Housing First in Maine: Logan Place :
Logan Place, Maine’s first supportive housing development for chronically homeless people, was developed as extremely low-barrier permanent supported housing. Since its opening in March 2005, chronic homelessness has been reduced in Portland for the first time in more than two decades and the overflow plan for the city’s emergency overnight shelter has not been utilized once.

Housing for the Mentally Ill Homeless: Conrad N. Hilton Foundation :
In American society today, the homeless street person is the most emblematic symbol of the poor and disabled who have been left behind by the nation's prosperity. To address the needs of this population, over the past 12 years the Conrad Hilton Foundation has granted $20 million to the Corporation for Supportive Housing.
