Solving the Problem of Homelessness:
Philanthropy and Government in Action
July 17, 2006, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join your colleagues and peers from around the country for this chance to network and share best practices and strategies for ending homelessness in communities across the U.S., including the chance to hear from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg!

$100 registration fee per person covers continental breakfast, lunch, program, and materials.

To register, complete the registration form and return along with payment to the address included on the form.

This event is open to funders only. Participation is limited to private foundations, family foundations, community foundations, representatives of corporate giving programs, private investors, and philanthropic individuals who are currently funding efforts to end homelessness, or who wish to learn more about effective programs, strategies and policies for addressing long-term homelessness.

Members of the Executive Committee for the Partnership to End Long Term Homelessness welcome participants to the first summer Funders Forum of the Partnership, and will share more about the goals and objectives of this emerging network.

9:15 – 10:30   Funders Tackle the "A" Word  (Advocacy)
What is the role of foundations in helping to frame public discussions about the most important issues facing society? How can funders work with nonprofits and government to promote and achieve systemic and sustainable change in the areas of affordable housing, mental health, and homelessness, to name a few? Join this wide-ranging discussion with two leading practitioners in the field of philanthropy, as they share their experiences and practical advice for tackling the “A” word.

Here about the example of one state government making a concerted effort to partner with the philanthropic community.

2006 Annual Conference from the National Alliance to End Homelessness... Ending Homelessness: Plan, Act, Succeed

The Partnership's Funders Forum will be held immediately prior to the 2006 Annual Conference for the National Alliance to End Homelessness, which will be held July 17 to 19 and which you are also encouraged to attend. Plenary speakers for the conference include:

The Honorable Arlen Specter, US Senator from Pennsylvania, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education

The Honorable Artur Davis, US Representative from Alabama, House Financial Services Committee

The Alliance has also designated a suggested track of sessions for funders interested in building upon the discussions from the Funders Forum.
