What is the face of homelessness in the aftermath of the devastating Gulf Coast Hurricanes of 2005? And what is the role for private philanthropy given the immense scope of the disasters?

To answer these questions, the Partnership to End Long-Term Homelessness gathered a group of grantmakers and their nonprofit partners in a Funders Forum on November 14, 2005 in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the conversation was to understand the magnitude of the displacement occurring throughout the Gulf Coast region, and to examine the implications for philanthropic and public investments in reconstruction and recovery over the long-term. The conversation was an opportunity to hear first-hand from nonprofit sector leaders who are working in the region with communities torn asunder not just physically but also emotionally and civically, trying to set priorities, plan, and deliver services in an environment bereft of infrastructure.
