Justice Center Creates New Second Chance Act Resource
The Council of State Governments Justice Center is creating resources to help national, state, and local organizations take full advantage of the opportunities presented by the Second Chance Act.
The legislation authorizes grants to government agencies and nonprofit organizations to provide services, such as substance abuse treatment and employment assistance to help reduce the rate of re-offending and probation and parole violations. In order to help organizations be able to act quickly when the Bureau of Justice Assistance announces these grants, the Justice Center has published a four-page fact sheet on State and Local Reentry Demonstration Project grants. These grants were authorized by Section 101 of the Second Chance Act.
The fact sheet, "Understanding the Second Chance Act," describes who can apply for these grants, how they can be used, application requirements, and several other important aspects of these grants. The Justice Center plans to publish additional resources on re- entry and the Second Chance Act in the future.
