Representatives from more than 30 leading homelessness funders gathered on July 17, 2006 in Washington DC for the Partnership to End Long Term Homelessness’ first summer Funders Forum exploring effective strategies for working with government to end homelessness.

The theme of the event – Solving the Problem of Homelessness: Philanthropy and Government in Action – underscored the reality that philanthropy alone cannot solve the problem of homelessness, and highlighted how collaboration between philanthropy and government can achieve systemic and sustainable change.  The Forum offered funders an opportunity to engage in candid discussion with their peers about advocacy, the relationships between grantmaking and policy, and how foundations can better work in harmony with government.

This brief report offers a summary of each speaker’s comments, excerpts from each session’s Q & A, and overall key takeaways from the event.
