In 1991, after a year of research and study, the Melville Charitable Trust launched a unique philanthropy with a principal focus on confronting and solving the causes of homelessness.

Over the past 15 years, the Trust has worked with providers and developers in the production, rehabilitation, or regeneration of over 5000 units of well-designed, safe, and permanent supportive housing. The Trust is the founding supporter of the Partnership for Strong Communities, a key partner in Connecticut’s Reaching Home campaign to develop 10,000 units of supportive housing for the state by 2014, and a founder of the Partnership to End Long-term Homelessness.
