Supportive Housing:
What types of services are typically provided in supportive housing programs?

The specific services available to clients/residents of supportive housing projects depend on the nature and extent of each program.

The following are services that many supportive housing programs offer either on-site or through a referral to an off-site provider.

Health Care: This varies widely by project but can include everything from annual physical exams to dental care to post-natal care.

Mental Health services: Many projects offer on-site weekly (or daily) mental health therapy groups. Additional services often include one on one counseling, medication management, and coping strategies.

Addiction services: Projects often offer daily Alcoholics Anonymous and/or Narcotics Anonymous (or similar) meeting in addition to individual and group treatment for substance abuse.

Education: Offerings generally include GED preparation, basic literacy, computer training, and arts programs.

Employment: Because employment is a critical component of overcoming homelessness, Project H.O.M.E. residents are taught life skills, job training and employment readiness. Many of our residents take entry-level custodial or reception jobs at our sites. Many others work at one of our two businesses -- the Back Home Café & Catering or Our Daily Threads Thrift Store.
